What Is "Living A Good Story"?

What is a good life? How to attain success and happiness? How do we create and live a good story? These are questions I am sure we all have asked ourselves at one point in our life. I too have gone around trying to find answers to these questions, trying to somehow find meaning and purpose in life.

But don’t you think that we tend to overcomplicate things? Life was never meant to be as complex as what we all have made it to be.

The vision behind Two Souls One Chai is to encourage others to start living a good story. Both Umair and I believe that the key to this is in simplifying our life. There are three main pillars that hold the foundation of a good life and they are all interdependent.

Pillar No. 1: Befriend your Creator

The Universe is not against you. The day you realise that things are not happening to you, they are happening for you, then you will gain a clearer perspective on life.

A lot of times we feel that life is nothing but a struggle but many times we forget that our struggle is actually a doorway towards our higher purpose in life.

Your Creator is your friend. This is very crucial to understand. For years I have been very unclear as to what exactly is my purpose, what am I supposed to do as my career? Why did I even come here? When overwhelmed, I always brought these questions before Him.

So talk to Him, like how you would to your best friend. He will by all means give you clarity and a sense of direction as to what kind of life you should be living.

Pillar No. 2: Find your Purpose

Living a good story is about uncovering who God created you to be and in turn finding Him.

Whatever you end up doing in life, ask yourself will this make Him happy?

If your whole purpose in life is to impress others and gain their validation, then you will be left discontent because it's a desire with no end - a futile task. Simply put, if you have tried it, then you would know that it's so (darn) hard to please everyone. There will always be someone who will not like what you are doing or is unhappy with you for no reason.

So why not, focus all your time and energy on just gaining His approval. Ask yourself, isn’t that easier?

Pillar No. 3: Be of Service to Others:

“One’s life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others.”

Simone De Beauvoir

You must be wondering, but how do we even know He is happy with us? In order for the Creator to love us, we must first and foremost, love the creation.

Look around you, how can you be of help to the creation? Did your struggle teach you something? Perhaps, you can share it in the form of knowledge that can help others going through the same trials.

Do you have excess of something material? Maybe, you can share it with those who may not have that, in the form of charity?

Are you a good listener? Can you lend an ear and help a friend in despair? Can you smile and say a few words of kindness to them and make their day? Do you know that smiling itself is a form of charity?

Helping others does not have to be something grand. It is the love in your heart and your intent that truly matters.

To end this off, just a question to leave you all with:

At the end of the day, it’s your heart that you will present before Him in the life to come, what story do you want it to tell on your behalf?

Remember, the story you would want then should first and foremost be the story you live now.

With love,

Rabail and Umair Khan
